Al Levi is a consultant that has decades of experience in the home service industry running his family business until the mid 90s and then being a consultant for the past 25 years.  He has helped numerous companies including A1 and he had a metric where he said he had never seen a company not be profitable with a 2 to 1 or greater ratio of technicians to office staff.  He defines technician as anyone in the field that is driving revenue and not necessarily just sales people who dont actually turn the wrench and perform the work to earn the revenue.  The cool thing is with software like Service Titan, you can really drive further automation and get those ratios even higher.  We always expanded with an eye on that ratio understanding where we should be with our staff.

First of all welcome and thank you for being part of the community. I have seen two different scenarios in this where there were 10 technicians and one office manager/dispatcher along with CSR to make sure the phones are covered at all times. I have another shop in Iowa that has 17 managed technicians with 3 office staff members performing three different roles. @candacec How many technicians do you currently have?
