Hiring Event

We are working on our hiring process and want to know what other people are doing. Our initial interview is done by Zoom. Does anyone else do this? What is your process? What questions do you ask?

Hi @Miranda there was another post on this earlier and typically you would review the application and if the person seems like a good candidate, you would reach out to them to do an "application review" over the phone. This is just another checkpoint to establish that contact and gage the person's enthusiasm and confirm skills listed on their resume, etc. Once that's done you can then schedule either an in-person or virtual interview (that's a whole section in itself). If the interview goes well, run the background check and schedule a drug screening test. Then the onboarding experience takes place from there!

tldr; application reivew>phone call>interview>legal screenings

Interview questions would be more detailed based on the role you're looking to fill; there are so many entry level questions that are asked, but one question that I found to be impactful and help the interviewee open up is "how can we help you achieve your goals and give you the career growth you can expect by joining our team?" (this will give them the opportunity to state their expectations, and will help you understand the areas they would like to focus on getting better at.)

Usually when someone applies they either A) call in first or B) email us a resume/email asking if we have a position open. We start generally by having a phone call with them and ask some questions about their experience, when they are available to start etc. We look over their resume and if we think they could be a potential fit for us then we schedule an in person interview and go from there. We aren't using Zoom for interviews currently. Our owner likes to ask why they chose HVAC or where they see themselves in 5 years (learn their goals and their ambitions).
