Delete Custom Fields

Is it at all possible to delete a "deactivated" custom field?  And if yes, how do you go about doing it?  I do not see any options to delete them.  We are getting a lot of the custom fields piling up that we never use.  I was looking to consolidate that list

thanks.  That's what we've been doing. I was just wondering if there's a way to directly delete it.  I apprecaite the reply though!  thank you!

Go to Settings --> custom fields --> find the one you want to deactivate and click on edit ---> scroll down to the bottom and deactivate.

If you click edit on the one you want to deactivate the option is at the very bottom of the screen by save. If your not seeing it, it may be a permission.
