Duct Work.jpg

It is amazing when we first get a call for no heat or no cool, we always assume that the issue is the equipment whether it be the air handler or condenser. Very few technicians ever assume it is duct work which may be dirty, in disrepair or undersized. In many ways centers leave dollars on the table when they go in a do a system changeout and don’t look at the duct work. We need to train our sales team and technician that ducts are a vital part of the system and need to be properly maintained just like the hardware and equipment is when we do bi-annual tune-ups. When was the last time one of your team offered anti-microbial duct work? In this age of COVID that would be a great addon sale to many package system sales.

Proper duct size, cleaning and maintenance are essential for the optimal functioning of your HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system. In this blog, we will discuss the importance of duct cleaning and maintenance and how it benefits both your HVAC system and your overall indoor air quality.

  1. Improved Indoor Air Quality: Over time, dust, dirt, pollen, pet dander, and other contaminants can accumulate in your HVAC system's ductwork. When the system operates, these pollutants can be circulated throughout your home, compromising indoor air quality. Regular duct cleaning removes these accumulated contaminants, leading to cleaner and healthier air for you and your family to breathe.
  2. Enhanced Energy Efficiency: When ducts become clogged with debris, it restricts the airflow and forces your HVAC system to work harder to maintain the desired temperature. This extra strain increases energy consumption and can lead to higher utility bills. By cleaning your ducts and ensuring unobstructed airflow, your HVAC system can operate more efficiently, reducing energy usage and saving you money in the long run.
  3. Extended HVAC System Lifespan: With the proper sized ducts a well-maintained HVAC system tends to last longer than one that is neglected. When dust and debris accumulate in the ductwork, they can make their way into other system components such as the blower motor and coils, causing unnecessary wear and tear. Regular duct cleaning and maintenance help prevent this buildup, reducing the strain on system components and increasing the lifespan of your HVAC system.
  4. Prevention of Mold Growth: Moisture within the ductwork can create an environment conducive to mold growth. Mold spores can be distributed throughout your home via the HVAC system, potentially causing allergic reactions and respiratory issues. Proper duct cleaning and maintenance help eliminate excess moisture and reduce the risk of mold growth, promoting a healthier living environment.
  5. Odor Elimination: Lingering odors in your home can often be attributed to pollutants trapped within the ducts. These odors can be due to factors like pet dander, cooking fumes, tobacco smoke, or cleaning chemicals. Regular duct cleaning helps remove these odor-causing particles, resulting in fresher and cleaner indoor air.

To ensure proper duct cleaning and maintenance, it is advisable to hire professional HVAC technicians experienced in duct cleaning services. They have the necessary equipment and expertise to thoroughly clean the ducts and inspect the overall condition of your HVAC system. Do you have someone with this experience on your team?

In conclusion, proper duct sizing, cleaning and maintenance play a vital role in improving indoor air quality, enhancing energy efficiency, extending the lifespan of your HVAC system, preventing mold growth, and eliminating unpleasant odors. By prioritizing regular duct cleaning and maintenance, you can enjoy a healthier and more comfortable living environment while maximizing the performance of your HVAC system.
