I’m facing QuickBooks Error 15240 while attempting a payroll update. This error is stopping the update from finishing and appears to be linked to file permissions or internet connectivity issues. I’ve tried restarting QuickBooks and verifying my internet connection, but the problem continues. Has anyone else encountered QuickBooks Error 15240? What steps or solutions worked for you to fix this issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hi @kudroandrew

QuickBooks Error 15240 often occurs during payroll updates and can be related to file permissions or connectivity issues. Here’s how you can resolve this error:

Step 1: Verify Internet Connection

  1. Ensure Stable Connection: Check that your internet connection is stable and active.
  2. Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily: Sometimes, security software can block QuickBooks updates. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software and attempt the update again. Remember to re-enable it afterward.

Step 2: Check File Permissions

  1. Locate QuickBooks Data Folder: Go to the folder where your QuickBooks company files are stored.
  2. Check Permissions:
    • Right-click on the QuickBooks folder.
    • Select Properties > Security tab.
    • Ensure that the user account has Full Control permissions. If not, adjust the permissions accordingly.
  3. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

Step 3: Update QuickBooks

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help > Update QuickBooks.
  3. Click Update Now.
  4. Select Get Updates and wait for the process to complete.
  5. Restart QuickBooks after the update.

Step 4: Rebuild QuickBooks Data

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.
  3. Follow the prompts to repair any issues with your company file.
  4. Verify the Data by going to File > Utilities > Verify Data.

Step 5: Use QuickBooks Tool Hub

  1. Download and Install QuickBooks Tool Hub from the official QuickBooks website.
  2. Open QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Go to the Installation Issues tab and select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool.
  4. Run the tool and let it complete its scan.
  5. Restart your computer after the tool finishes.

Step 6: Clear QuickBooks Update Download

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help > Update QuickBooks.
  3. Click Options.
  4. **Select Mark All as Done to clear the downloaded update files.
  5. Try updating QuickBooks again.

Step 7: Verify and Adjust Windows Settings

  1. Ensure that Windows is up-to-date.
  2. Check if Windows Updates are pending and install any available updates.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve QuickBooks Error 15240 and complete your payroll update successfully. If the issue persists, consider reaching out to QuickBooks Support for further assistance.
