Tracking Stock

Hello,

We don't currently manage inventory, mostly because our technicians will buy what they need when they need it from Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon, out of convivence more than cost. Also, we are considered an emerging trade and our Pricebook would be a 1000 pages long if we included everything our technicians use.  However, we are trying to include certain things in stock that they don't use everyday, but they do use occasionally and it would be nice to have in the warehouse when they do use it.  That being said when we buy things for stock how do you track it in the PO's? For example, my boss will buy something for stock and currently she either assigns it to no job or she is assigning the whole price for whatever she bought under the job even if she bought 3 and is only using one.

Best practice would be to create a job PO for only items used on the job, and a stock PO for anything to go into stock.  Without having the inventory module activated, you won't be able to use ST for counts/replenishments, etc, but it sounds like you wouldn't need that.

You can also create a Special Order Item Code that you can apply materials to a job from items that are not in your pricebook.  That way you can order on a stock PO and then apply the Special Order Item code with a price to the job so you can get accurate costing.
