American Airlines' baggage policy includes the following:
Checked bag size
The total outside dimensions of a checked bag, including length, width, and height, must not exceed 62 inches (158 cm).
Checked bag weight
A checked bag must weigh no more than 50 pounds (23 kg).
Overweight baggage
A bag that weighs more than 50 pounds but less than 70 pounds (32 kg) will be charged an overweight fee.
Oversized baggage
A bag that exceeds 62 inches in total dimensions will be charged an oversized fee. American Airlines will not accept any bag that is larger than 126 inches.
Excess baggage
A third checked bag costs $150, and each additional bag costs $200.
Elite airline status
Passengers with elite status can check up to three bags that weigh up to 70 pounds each for free.
Business and first class
Passengers traveling in business or first class on domestic flights can bring two bags that weigh up to 70 pounds each.
Checked bag limits
At some airports, you can't check bags more than four hours before departure.
Refunds
Refunds are not granted if you cancel or change your mind about the number of bags you paid for.
