Tracking of Task Versions

We are maintaining a separate excel to track changes we are making to Service tasks in an effort to have a better understanding of how services are performing. Does anyone have a better process then maintaining a separate spreadsheet? 

It would be helpful to have a way of tracking task version changes within the price book. For example being able to link an older task(deactivated) that we might split out to multiple tasks or vice versa taking multiple tasks and condensing them into one. This would allow us to get better metric recordings for trend analysis when we look at elasticity, etc.  I added the suggestion to ideas, but could use work around solutions if anyone has any.
