Unit of Measure tracking for Refrigerants?

Does anyone here use UoM to track refrigerants? If so, does it work well for your business? What procedures do you employ to ensure that refrigerant is tracked correctly in the field? Do you find that utilizing this level of tracking saves money in the long run?

We are a Small Commercial HVAC/R & restaurant equipment service company. We are currently in the middle of redesigning our inventory procedures. Any input helps!

We are planning on implementing UOM shortly, but have not yet. However, currently our refrigerant is purchased per lb with the cost built as such. Our technicians in the field will have 25lbs transferred to their truck (410A as an example). They then will put the quantity to an individual job invoice of how much was used from their jug. Then replenish from our warehouse when needed.
