Hello,

I'm encountering QuickBooks Error 1618 during installation. The error message says another installation is already in progress, but nothing else seems to be running. Can anyone help with steps to resolve QuickBooks Error 1618? I’ve tried restarting my computer, but the issue persists. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

QuickBooks Error 1618 is an installation error that occurs when you try to install or update QuickBooks software. This error typically appears with the message: “Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.” It is related to conflicts with other installation processes running on your system.

Reason for QuickBooks Error 1618

Error 1618 usually arises due to the following reasons:

  1. Concurrent Installations: Another installation process is running at the same time as the QuickBooks installation. This conflict prevents QuickBooks from installing correctly.
  2. Incomplete Previous Installations: An interrupted or incomplete installation of another program may leave residual processes that interfere with new installations.
  3. Background Processes: Background processes or services related to software updates or installations might be conflicting with the QuickBooks installation.

Solutions to Resolve QuickBooks Error 1618

  1. Close Other Installations:

    • Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
    • Go to the "Processes" tab.
    • Look for any installation processes (e.g., msiexec.exe) and end them by selecting the process and clicking "End Task".
    • Retry the QuickBooks installation.
  2. Restart Your Computer:

    • Restarting your computer can terminate any ongoing installation processes and clear temporary files that might be causing the issue.
  3. Check for Pending Windows Updates:

    • Ensure that your system has the latest Windows updates installed. Sometimes, pending updates can interfere with new installations.
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  4. Run QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool:

    • Download and run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool from the official Intuit website. This tool can help identify and fix installation issues automatically.
  5. Perform a Clean Installation:

    • Uninstall any partially installed versions of QuickBooks from your system.
