Overall Project Business Unit

We assign an overall business unit to a project such as Commercial New Construction.  Within that project there will be jobs performed by different business units, i.e. Service business unit will do the start-up of the system.  When assigning an overal business unit with this new update, we are unable to attach jobs with other business units within the project.  Does anyone know of a workaround?

Hi @CByrum1972, thank you for reaching out about this! @plewis is correct! We would want to associate all Business Units that will be worked on within the project.   As mentioned before, when you create, edit, or save an invoice, estimate, purchase order, requisition, return, payment application, or job within a project, the business unit assigned to those items must match one of the business units assigned to the project. If the project doesn’t have any assigned business units, you can assign any business unit to the items you create, edit, or save.  Let us know if you have any additional questions and we are more than happy to help!

Hey,
A couple of call outs here.  It looks like you should be assigning ALL Business units that will be worked on the project to the project.  You can assign multiple business units and that would be the recommended workflow here.

Assigning Business Units to Projects has two purposes mainly.
1. It allows you to now use reporting to look up projects with certain business units assigned.
2. It helps prevent user error by preventing the creation of records on a project for business units that are NOT assigned to the project (this is what is causing the issue you outlined here).

The fix would be to just assign all business units that are going to be on that project to the project and then you shouldn't have a problem attaching jobs from any of the assigned business units to the project.

The specialist will get in touch with you soon to help you figure out the accurate workflow when having different BU jobs within one project.

I am having difficulty with this as well.
