I’m facing QuickBooks Error 15243 while attempting to update my payroll. The error message says, “Error 15243: The QuickBooks Update Service is not responding.” Restarting QuickBooks and my computer hasn’t helped. I’m looking for advice on how to resolve this error. Any troubleshooting steps or solutions would be greatly appreciated to ensure my payroll updates correctly.

QuickBooks Error 15243 usually occurs when the QuickBooks File Copy Service (FCS) is not working correctly or is disabled. Here’s a step-by-step guide to fix this error:

Step 1: Verify and Update QuickBooks

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help > Update QuickBooks.
  3. Click Update Now.
  4. Select Get Updates.
  5. Restart QuickBooks after the update completes.

Step 2: Verify QuickBooks File Copy Service (FCS)

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run command.
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Locate QuickBooks File Copy Service in the list.
  4. Right-click on QuickBooks File Copy Service and select Properties.
  5. Set the Startup type to Manual.
  6. Click Apply and then Start.

Step 3: Repair QuickBooks Installation

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. Go to Programs and Features.
  4. Select QuickBooks and click Uninstall/Change.
  5. Click Continue, then Next.
  6. Select Repair and click Next.
