Perhaps when reviewing services in the price book, there's a check box for "equipment service", and then when someone adds that task/service to the invoice or estimate, it will pull up the list of equipment to choose for which that task is performed. This would eliminate steps to go to item summary screen in the price book, then scroll to the bottom, and then attach it there. Even just a simple drop down of the equipment after you add that task that was marked as an equipment service. This would help build that equipment history for replacement sales etc. without having to really "think" about doing it.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but in pricebook services, when you have a services item on your screen, page options across the top should be Details - Commission - Materials - Equipment - Workflow. If you want to add an equipment item that is automatically added to the job when the task is added, click on the equipment page and identify the item you want added. On the right side of the Equipment page, you will see a list of all equipment that is to be added when the task is added. Same thing to add materials, but they are added on the materials page. Workflow would let you add things like membership plans, etc. Hope that answers your question.
