sending notifications more than 24 hours prior to appointment

Is there anyway for me to say send out a reminder 2-3 days prior to the appointment (if it was booked in advance)

and then follow up with another notification/reminder on the day of the appointment?

It would be nice if you had more customization of the messaging.  Problem with marketing pro is that it is email and not text so people don't always see it.  At least you can include/exclude business units now but would be nice to customize messaging including more options and frequency on send types and a different message depending on the situation.
